Synopsis of 1984 by George Orwell

1984 is an all-time classic, a must-read for most students, and has been rising to the top of the book charts over the past decade.

1984 is a dystopian novella by George Orwell published in 1949, which follows the life of Winston Smith, a low ranking member of ‘the Party’, who is frustrated by the omnipresent eyes of the party, and its ominous ruler Big Brother. ‘Big Brother’ controls every aspect of people’s lives.

About Book CommUnity – Read and Reflect

Book CommUnity explores the capacity of books to provide insights into societal realities. We will be choosing a series of quality books that address different aspects of creativity, shared values, critical thinking, non-violence and identity to read and then to discuss together at relaxed, sociable gatherings at the Intercultural Dialogue Platform. The sessions will start with a short thought experiment and will be followed by discussions. Participants are welcome to suggest books for future sessions.

You do not need to be an expert on literature or anything else to join in. The event should be enjoyable for anyone who enjoys a good book and likes to share their ideas and opinions on the parallels between the book and the world that we are living in today.
