Session 3: The quest for identity through Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s book “Terre des hommes”

You are invited to our third Book CommUnity – Meditate and Read session. We are going to tackle the question of the quest for identity through Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s book “Terre des hommes”. The event will be organized via Zoom.

  • We will have an interactive conversation on the essential topics covered in the book. The discussion will focus on:
  • The journey in search of his identity as seen by the author
  • The author’s unique vision of love, hope, peace, friendship and man’s connection with nature
  • The author’s reflection on universal human values ​​and social cohesion
  • The idea of ​​moral responsibility
  • The similarities between Terre des hommes and The Little Prince

Two guests will be present during the session:

Olivier Odaert is professor of literature and philosophy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai. Doctor of Letters from UCL, he has devoted a great deal of research to twentieth century French literature, and in particular to the work of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, for which he wrote his thesis. At the same time, he devotes himself to writing (short stories, novels, educational and scientific publications).

Philippe Forest is a French writer and essayist. Doctor of Letters from the University of Paris IV in 1991, Philippe Forest taught for seven years in British universities: Heriot-Watt (Edinburgh), St John’s College (Cambridge), St Andrews, Birkbeck College (University of London). Since 1995, he has been teaching at the University of Nantes where he is professor of literature. He is the author of numerous essays devoted to the literature and the history of avant-garde movements and of seven novels.

You do not need to be an expert in literature or otherwise to participate. The reading group should be enjoyable for all those who like a good book and who like to discover new ones.
